Almighty God - Song Story
This song was based on lyrics from The Psalter circa 1912, and I don’t know which melody it was originally sung to or what it’s title or author is, as they’re not credited. But I think these lyrics are completely relevant for the church today. Thank you United Presbyterian Board of Publication for preserving these lyrics for us!
We serve a God of justice, and as His children, His ambassadors, we need to speak into situations of injustice every chance we get.
I wrote a new chorus to go with these century-old words to tie it all together - “with words old and new, in spirit and in truth, we worship You and only You, Almighty God”
There is one God, and one way to God - through Jesus Christ His Son. God paid for our freedom by sacrificing His only Son - our freedom to choose or reject His offer of salvation and redemption.
I hope this song gets stuck in your head, and brings you to worship the Author of Life passionately, in spirit and truth.
Words: From The Psalter (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:
The United Presbyterian Board of Publication, 1912), number 242.
